The original uses a controller built off of Buildbotics and the Elite uses a Masso G3 Touch. Yes you can use the X-axis instead of the Y-axis. Just chose to use the Y-axis because of the way I had my table setup. But either would work the same just have to switch the setup to the X instead of the Y.
