Project Zomboid's wiki says being bitten has a 96% of being infected, consider yourself dead. Being scratched on the other hand has a 25% chance, 3/4th chance of being fine BUT you can still tell almost instantly if you're infected and I think that's very dumb. Currently you can tell if you're infected, before any symptoms, by trying to heal.

I died eventually from a horde lol The infection notice you get on the health screen, and the knox virus are two different things. Infection notice is just the regular wound infection you can get if the wound is not treated appropriately.

I've disabled blood infection, saliva only, thought I got bit but I just got a laceration and scratches, but symptoms of the Knox infection started kicking in and eventually I turned.

Scratch is 7%, Laceration is 25%, and Bite is 100%. But you can get injured by stuff besides zombies, you know. Illness in Project Zomboid is most often a result of zombification progression but can also be caused by eating bad food or drinking tainted water, as well as standing near corpses for prolonged periods. Illness from corpses will quickly go away after vacating the area. Likewise, illness from food or water will go away after some time.
