As @staubs indicates, a pistol with a FDMxxxx serial should have a Gen 2 cut. I also think a Gen 1 or Gen 2 doesn’t make much difference although the Gen 2 is a little longer and will take more brands of optic sights. That is my understanding as well. I also believe that all of the colored frame PDP’s are optic cut 2.0.

I've read sources that claim it means this pistol was made from rejected military / police parts for the commercial market. The pair of date letters is on the slide, not in the serial number. The barrel definitely is from a different pistol as it has the last three of a different serial number. This P1 was reworked 10/1977 which seemed strange to me for a frame of 10/1976 until I realized the frame must be older than the slide. I'm trying to track down the date of the frame now using the serial number. It may be from 1968.
