I just cancelled my Asurion coverage purchased through UBreakifix for $25/mth because I tried to start a claim for a laptop hinge that was loose and finally popped out. They denied the claim because it was pre-existing. I decided that I'll save the $300/yr instead of going through the aggravation of being denied.
The 300 fee is to cover the cost of the phone they shipped you, not to let you keep the damaged device. Asurion owns that device, they will black list it, and you can be held liable for insurance fraud if you sell or use it.
