Posted July 6, 2009 (edited) Dan, The one with 3 marks is probably a half choke so put it in the top barrel The one with 4 marks is probably a quarter choke so put it in the bottom barrel.That's the conventional way. My max shot is 35 yards, but most are under 25.The basic rule: tighten your choke for further-away targets and open it for closer targets. For trap, you probably want a Mod or Improved Cylinder. Mod works well for slower athletes and Improved Cylinder is better for faster. For skeet, you want a skeet. (Go figure!) For sporting clays, start with a Mod and go from there.

It's a random "sporting clay course" and you don't want to think about your chokes. Me? I'm not any level. I've been shooting recreationally for about 4-5 years. I don't compete. I don't keep score. I see every type of target imaginable. I shoot at 3-4 different clay courses and they change their presentations every month or two.

Even our man Tron was commenting on how sluggish he felt his K-80 is, at Sporting Clay's. I'm sure he is using a standard weighted K-80 barrel with factory choke tubes.
