Ideally, with all modern games should be loaded onto an m.2 or SATA SSD as the older spinning disc Hard Drives will take a long time to load games. My BG3 is loaded on a SATA SSD and I am loaded up in about 20seconds (though I haven't put a stop watch on it). If I put BG3 on my m.2 I can imagine it would be a little bit quicker.

The HDD being external is bottlenecking your asset load times to USB speed. If you have it on an internal SSD, this will improve your experience immensely. It is kind of a requirement to run games on SSD in 2023. Zipped around Baldur’s Gate no issue, same as PC version. -going to camp, ending the day, waking up, leaving is similar to PC, maybe like a second slower. - loading between smaller zones (going into buildings, basements, tombs, etc) is very similar to PC. Black screen for a few secs then good to go.
