How to activate the core in astroneer.
To start out, you'll need to build the usual base components near your Astronium deposit (the closer to the core, the better, just in case you do have to trek out for Argon later). You'll want at least one Auto Extractor on the Atronium deposit, at least 1 Trade Platform, and at least 1 Shredder. Storage is recommended but not required.
The core will require 2 quartz. (1 for unlock of planet and then 1 for unlock on the gate station terminal.) Quartz is easily found, or you can soil centrifuge it if you are super lazy. If you dont know what material you need to activate core look it up or else you will die and have to recover your rover on second trip with the material. After activating the core package your stuff and teleport to the surface.
In Astroneer, I drilled down to the core on Desolo. Basically, I drilled sloped passageways and set down tethers as I went, eventually breaking through into the big open area around the inner core. Then I jumped. I don't have the necessary materials to activate the core (zinc, if I'm reading this iconography right).You can get to the core manually and enjoy the scenery by digging with your terrain tool and making ramps. There's a cool biome in the mantle layer of each planet (doesn't include moons) that's worth checking out. Or, you can get there fast using a drill.
