Sarracenia, commonly known as Pitcher Plant, is a spectacular and fascinating genus of carnivorous plants, including 15 species and subspecies found naturally in North America. Most species inhabit very wet, peaty bogs or swamps in the southeastern United States.

The plants once grew in a huge field with acres of regular S. leucophyllas, and within the population were a few select white plants. For the rest of us, if you grow S. leucophylla, the take home message is to keep that soil moist, but don't let it sit in water for more than 2-3 days in a row. If you do decide to sit it in water permanently, make sure the water level is very low, maybe 1/4" or lower...that might allow sufficient oxygen to enter the soil.
